The CIGEPS of UNESCO (Inter Governmental Committee for Sport & Physical Education) met in Paris March 19 & 20. An important part of its agenda was dedicated to reports concerning the development of Traditional Sports & Games over the world. These meetings give us the opportunity to get contacts with other leaders from other continents. Some festivals are thus organised every year in Thailand, in China, and in the countries of the Centre of Africa.

European Union : The « Youth in Action » programme, 2007-2013, have been adopted by the European Parliament. Information are now available on the web site:

An inventory project of the organisations working in the domain of the heritage is in progress (developed by a Flemish group). You are invited to record your organisation on the web site www.heritage-organisations.eu with access to 4 languages: English, French, German and Dutch. This web site will be converted later into an online database.

European Union: A campaign of sensitisation is currently organised for action on Diet, Physical Activity and Health, against the obesity of the youth, and of the population in general, this together with the W.H.O. (World Organisation of Health). One of orientations is to try to solve this problem by Sport. ETSGA wishes to know the definition of the word Sport for the European Union: commercial sport shown at the television, often at the origin of the risk conducts? Or Sport for all, organised by the population, whose object is to have fun and to practice a socialising physical activity (with traditional games as a part of this)? The problem of obesity is first of all a general problem of society. ETSGA, in its meeting of Valencia (Spain), has clearly declared to be in favour of the « Low Food », the traditional gastronomy consumed with measure, and unfavourable to the system of the « Fast Food ». Otherwise, it is very paradoxical that the European Union offers a very advantageous VAT to the Fast Food whereas the recent studies show clearly that this system accentuates the problem of obesity. A text will be proposed at the A.G.M. of Angers.

Tunisia: The meeting of Valencia saw the signature of an agreement of partnership between ETSGA and The Superior Institute for Childhood Officers of Carthage (ministry of education). Two collaborations will be run in April: 20th and 21st with the participation of Jean Fulcrand (ETSGA secretary) to the symposium “Culture and childhood” in Carthage, and 27th and 28th, seminary about “the sociocultural activity with the traditional games”, in Monastir, with the involvement of Carlos de La Villa (Association La Tanguilla - Burgos).

On the 30th a traditional games course was organised in the « Escuela Internacional de Educación Física y Deportes » (EIEFD) of La Havana, with F. Amador and U. Castro, prof. The winter meeting of ETSGA (Valencia) took the following decisions for the demands of festivals (non members) wishing to receive a help for advertisement and organisation:
- The festivals should make visible the collaboration with ETSGA by the use of the Logo and while making reference to the European association in its advertising documents.

Canaria: From 18 to 28 of May will be held in the Canaries Islands (Gran Canaria and Tenerife) a sport and cultural exchange between the Federación de Lucha Canaria and the Academic Ssirum federation of Korea.
