Skittles in Cantabria

by José Ángel Hoyos Perote in Uncategorised

The Federación Cántabra de Bolos once again organised the Semana Bolística, the highest expression of the modality of Bolo Palma, which during 11 days developed the following competitions: Spanish 1st category Championship, Spanish Women’s Championship, Spanish Children’s Championship, Spanish Federation Cup by teams and the Torneo del Millón, an individual competition by the k.o. system.

All the competitions took place in the Santiago Galas indoor bowling alley, in Ontoria, Cabezón de la Sal, and were attended by a large number of people, especially on the day of the final of the Spanish Championship, which had to put up the “no tickets” sign. They were broadcasted on YouTube on three platforms. The AEJeST was always visible thanks to the placement of our logo on the alternative advertising scoreboard, as well as on all the posters.

Intangible heritage and tangible representations

by Biel Pubill Soler in Uncategorised

By the so-called tangible or material cultural heritage, we mainly consider monuments, architecture, works of art and furniture, and even certain built landscapes. It is the tangible, what we can touch. Intangible cultural heritage is the intangible, that is to say what one cannot touch, but only guess, imagine. These are all the social practices, traditions, representations, expressions, knowledge and know-how transmitted by the population.

Yet the intangible is not the opposite of the tangible, but often the inspiration, the source of art and of all the representations that can be seen on the monuments that are the pride of civilizations. Without the intangible, one could almost say that there would be no monuments.

When we visit some of our monuments, it is not always obvious, because we have to question the representations of the works and we therefore need to have cultural bases. Here is a concrete example during a visit to an old town called Sangüesa in Spanish, or Zangoza in Basque, in Spanish Navarra. This city is a very old Hospitallers Commandery of the Saint John of Jerusalem Order (crusades). The church was built around 1130 but the South facade is more recent (early 13th century).

El Fuerte Museum reopens

by José Ángel Hoyos Perote in Uncategorised

After three years closed, first because of the pandemic and then because of the problems of the company in charge of its management, this first weekend in May El Fuerte opens its doors to the residents of La Almunia de doña Godina and later to the general public.
Installed in the former Convent of San Lorenzo, it brings together samples of traditional games, mainly from Spain and Europe, classified by families. Inaugurated in 2017, El Fuerte became a reality thanks to the disinterested donation of all its pieces by the great JDT specialist Fernando Maestro, and the good management of the deputy mayor Juan José Moreno.
El Fuerte is the administrative headquarters of the European Association of Traditional Games and Sports-AEJeST.
