by Biel Pubill Soler in Publicaciones
The small federation Salzburg Rangglerverband and TAURISKA company have published the book “Hundstoa Ranggeln. Myth. Culture. Tradition.”Federation website: https://salzburger-rangglerverband.at/
The Salzburg Rangglerverband is a traditional Austrian wrestling federation which joined the FILC (Fédération Internationale des Luttes Celtiques) in the early 2000s. Günther HEIM, the author of the book was director of the agricultural school in Bruck and a former wrestler himself. He was for a long time president of this federation and also vice-president of the FILC.There are four small federations of Ranggeln wrestling: in Salzburg and Tyrol (Austria), South Tyrol (Italy) and Bavaria (Germany). The calendar is built with all of them and the regulations are similars.
This book is devoted to the traditional Ranggeln wrestling and its interconnections with local life, the traditions of this region of the Alps and also the intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO.This book is full of results and statistics, photos and well-grounded information on the Ranggeln wrestling style. It also tells the story of the very old myth “Hundstoa”, a mountain where a Ranggeln wrestling tournament is organized every year (since at least 1518). This tradition of Hundstoarangglen was inscribed in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO in 2010.
