by Biel Pubill Soler in Festivales
The Sports and Games section of the Cultural Institute of Brittany, in coordination with the Federation of Gouren and the International Federation of Celtic Wrestling, created an international festival in 1990, called C’hoarioù Breizh. Guy Jaouen and his team, delegated by the 3 organizations, was the coordinator.

This 1990 edition was a great success showing that there was a strong expectation from TSG organizations in many places. This success made possible to promote a European movement of TSG. Several editions were then organized, 1992, 1994, 1996, 1999 and 2001. It was the 2001 edition that saw the creation of the AEJeST, at the time of a large gathering of organizations in charge of the various skittle games of many countries. After nearly 20 years a new and different project is born in 2021, only at the level of Brittany this time. The object is to organize selections in different places of Brittany, in about twenty different games and sports. Following these selections (a dozen this year) the finals will take place in a large town in Brittany. In 2022 these finals will take place in Nantes, around the castle of the Dukes of Brittany, from July 1 to 10, but every day initiations will also be offered to the visitors. https://jeuxdebretagne.bzh/les-selections/ The idea is to organize these finals in different towns on a rotating basis, this year in the East of Brittany, next year in the West, etc. The goal is of course to promote all practices, which will certainly help the different federations to regain more vigor after the Covid crisis.
The project is also organized in the framework of popular education, sustainable development and support to the local economy. https://www.nhu.bzh/games-in-brittany/ Good luck to the C’hoarioù Breizh new version!
