On August 8th, coinciding with the “XXIV Valdearcos Cultural Week”, a small town in the south of the province of León (Spain), Mr. Pep Ribas from Ibiza, President of the Balearic Federation, hold a conference on the history of sling shooting which was entitled ‘The mercenary slingers of the Balearic Islands in Roman times’. The “international pljočke festival” has been held for the fourth time from 13th to 15th June 2019 in Svetivinčent, Croatia. It was organized by the IPS, and for the first time it was patronized by the UNESCO Office in Croatia. The first day was about the work with schools and cooperation on projects concerning traditional games and sports. In the afternon there was a scientific conference named THE UNESCO REGISTER OF GOOD PRACTICES IN THE SAFEGUARDING OF THE TRADITIONAL GAMES AND SPORTS, organized with the expert assistance of the Ethnographic Museum of Istria, with which the IPS has been cooperating from the very beginning of its activity.Read more
More than sixty members of the European Association of Traditional Games and Sports have been invited to participate in the annual meeting organized, on this occasion in Aosta, by the Federachon Sport of Nohtra Tera with the collaboration of the Italian Federation of Traditional Games and Sports. Fifty people attended, among delegates and companions, who had as their base the Hotel Diana, in Pollein, a municipality near Aosta.

The VI International Meeting of Traditional Games Ribera del Duero took place from April 25 to 28, 2019 in Aranda de Duero and Gumiel de Izán, and was organized by La Tanguilla. On Friday, April 26, an international symposium was organized focusing on “Women and Traditional Sports”. The framework paper was given by Dr. José Luis Alonso Ponga, Director of the Chair of Studies on Tradition in the Center for Applied Anthropology of the University of Valladolid, whose communication was about “Tempus Ludendi: as if all life was a game. Everything that is not serious”. He emphasized that the game “is something consubstantial to the human being, even before culture itself”.Read more
From March 30 to April 14, 2019, a study trip and meetings were planned in Iran (see map), in collaboration with the I.R.IRAN RURAL SPORT & LOCAL GAMES FEDERATION, and his president Gholamréza Jafari (also Vice-President of ITSGA).
Numerous meetings have been organized, either with regional leaders of traditional sports or with the administration of sport, or with regional governors and finally senior officials of the Ministry of Sport and Youth. The goal was to exchange information, material, ideas around development projects, festivals or international congresses.

The European Association was represented by Guy Jaouen, also president of ITSGA, the international TSG coordination. He was accompanied by Petar Petrov, a researcher at the Institute of Ethnography in Sofia and a specialist in wrestling sports. President Jafari also presented a copy of the first volume (700 pages) of the encyclopedia of traditional sports and games which is currently in construction. Two other volumes are in preparation, representing nearly 1100 different practices.
Following this two-week exchange, collaborative actions will be proposed to AEJeST, notably through international festivals and congresses.Read more
The past 29, 30 and 31 of March took place, in Cangas del Narcea, the International Congress: The traditional game today: surveillance, projection and social utility, organized by the Association of the Vaqueiro Bolo, the Conceyu of Cangas del Narcea, the Sociedá Etnomotora Asturiana and the European Association of Traditional Games and Sports.
The meeting was exquisitely led by the friends of the Bolo Vaqueiro Association who prepared a rigorous, entertaining, varied and enriching program.Read more
